Best bet is check at Parts express, you can get someone in an online conversation. They probably have something. Sparkomatic is horrible on parts and support.
The REAL Altec sold it's name BEFORE they went bankrupt. So there were a couple of years where there were TWO companies making Altec speakers...One professional..and one Home/Car. Not that it really matters since the REAL Altec went bankrupt shortly after.

As for replacement mid...GOOD LUCK. Sparkomatic is notorious for extremely poor service. I doubt you can find a replacement part.

If you want a much better sounding speaker at about the same size...Look on E-Bay for a used pair of Altec Model-6 or Model-8. And even though the REAL Altec is out of business you can still get replacement parts through Great Plains.

My timing might be slightly off but it was so close to the bankruptcy that I won't quibble semantics. They were broke.

A couple of points...it wasn't SOLD. Sparkomatic only leased the name for home and auto applications.. They didn't BUY it until after Telex shut Altec down.

There were two companies making speakers with Altec on them from the 80's to late 90's. Not just a couple years.

I am curious though if your info is correct why does Altec Consumer Products claim it was established in 1986 well after the bankruptcy?

    http://www.alteclansing.com/index.ph...ect=milestones

1982 - Altec Lansing builds almost 4,000 channels of power amplification for Disney's Epcot Center.

1986 - Altec Lansing Consumer Products is established in Milford, Pennsylvania to design, engineer and introduce a line of high fidelity loudspeakers for the home and car.

1990 - Altec Lansing introduces the first PC audio speaker system, the ACS200/300.

........In any case, it's a shame.....a damn dirty shame that the once mighty Altec name no longer exist and is a major player (if not LEADER) in the world of home & pro-audio although while names like Bose & Klipsch have remained in the field.

....All appologies to toddreka for side-tracking the thread......but I just HAD to say it!

....Also....no offense intended to Bose & Klipsch users either but this IS an ALTEC fan site after all.....just sayin'!

My apologies to Toddreka also for side tracking the thread. But I just wanted to make a point here also I think that we as Altec Fans should also support Great Plains Audio. For making parts available for our beloved Altec's once we can no longer get quality Altec parts for our speakers I think you will see alot of them disappear forever.I think we can all blame James Ling for Altec's bankruptcy when he incured mass debt and when he spun off Altec from LTV after around 10 years Altec could no longer service the debt around the early 80's. If this debt had never been incurred onto Altec's book's there is no doubt IMHO that Altec Lansing would still be the 1 speaker Manufacture in the world today.Klipsch & Bose didn't have to take on ridiculous amounts of debt and that is why they are still here today along with Boses endless advertising for the wave radio.I think Klipsch's have some good speakers my Cornwall II's are a very good sounding speaker but my 19's are the Kings especially after the XO rebuild Merry Christmas Everyone Have a Great Holiday Regards ~ AB

Too bad someone at GPA ( Bill ) does not participate in our forum. I'm sure they could answer many of our reconstruction questions. I know they are in business to make money, but they have a lot of knowledge about the products we use. IMHO anyway...

    Oh that would be fantastic!
Problem is.......he'd likely be hammered with so many pm's that it would end up turning him off!

"Established" could mean a name change, or a new facility, a new Sparky Altec product, etc...... some point ALT wants to point to, rather than a lease agreement date.

    Certainly could.

My experience though is flaky businesses generally claim the oldest date...the concept being longevity imparts legitimacy.

We may never know...and for now I'll say "around" the date of the bankruptcy. I just think it's important, especially in "oral histories" to keep events straight...

All I want is just to know one way or another, if somebody knows, I wanna know. But I wanna know for sure....
